Research Experience:
  • Post-doctoral research, University of California, Santa Barbara. Research award from NSF investigating the evolution of life history, physiological, and floral traits in Clarkia, exploring the joint evolution of mating system with plant water use strategies. October 2008-present.
  • Post-doctoral research, Andes, Region V, Chile. Under the auspices of Dr. Mary Kalin Arroyo; Using two systems, this project investigates the impact of plant sex ratio on community dynamics in a field study using the dioecious alpine cushion plant Laretia acaulis and compares male and female physiology of Kageneckia angustifolia over an altitudinal gradient. October 2006-October 2008.
  • Research supervisor, Dr. Susan Mazer, PI; breeding system evolution of Clarkia xantiana ssp xantiana and Clarkia xantiana ssp parviflora; This research addresses ontogenetic and sexual allocation differences between selfing and outcrossing subspecies. March 2005-September 2006.
  • Dissertation research, Pennsylvania Mountain, Colorado, USA. This project was a multi-faceted study of the sex dimorphism in the fundamental and realized niche of a dioecious shrub, Salix glauca. 2000-2006.
  • Graduate Research Assistant for Dr. Candace Galen, PI; physiological studies of the resource cost of flowering in Polemonium and Ranunculus species of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. June-August 1999, 2000, 2001.
  • Graduate Research Assistant for Dr. Stephen Pallardy, PI. Collected A-Ci curves and light and temperature response surfaces of several forest tree species in the Missouri Ozarks to better understand ecosystem processes related to global change June-August 2004.
  • Undergraduate Research Assistant for Dr. Thomas Bultman, PI. Investigated the tri-trophic interaction among Festuca arundinacea, Rhopalosiphum padi, Neotyphodium coenophialum 1998-1999.
